Small Quantities of Dangerous Goods

Thresholds are used to assess whether operators Transporting small quantities of dangerous goods by road or rail, still need to comply with the regulations.

If you are transporting dangerous goods by road in tanks or in bulk, the requirements of the regulations apply whatever quantities of dangerous goods you are carrying. In general, this is also true of the carriage of all dangerous goods by rail.

If you are carrying by road, you will need to establish whether the amounts are below certain load thresholds. To do this, first allocate the goods you are transporting to the appropriate transport categories: category 0 is the most hazardous while category 4 is the least. These categories are set out in the latest Carriage Regulations.

The following thresholds apply in the UK and most of Europe. Click Here (Para 1.1.3.6) for full details, or Contact Us.
